There will be no dramatic changes in relationship between Azerbaijan and Turkey but WikiLeaks will leave an aftertaste in personal relations, Alexander Markarov, director of the Armenian branch of the Institute of CIS States, told NEWS.am.

“Personal relations do not play a key role in politics, national interests are above it. Neither Azerbaijan nor Turkey will confirm or refute the WikiLeaks reports, authors of which are officials of the U.S. State Department. If we speak of refutation it must be done by the State Department,” the expert said. He stressed that the documents may contain either statement of facts or opinions of the diplomats.

As NEWS.am reported earlier, secret document published by WikiLeaks concerning the Feb. 25, 2010 meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. Undersecretary Nicholas Burns caused big fuss in the Turkish society.

The Turkish press labeled Azerbaijani leader’s words as backstabbing. The document mentions Aliyev stressed that gas deal signed with Russia was aimed at showing Turkey that they will not be allowed to create a gas distribution hub.
