Washington stands for “free and open” Asia-Pacific region, U.S. President Donald Trump said at a joint press conference with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang.

He said the United States us committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific region where strong independent countries respect each other's sovereignty, adhere to the rule of law and develop responsible trade.

According to him, the US wants to have independent partners in this region, and not controlled by someone from the outside.

Tran Dai Quang, for his part, said that the parties have reached important agreements in the sphere of economy and trade.

“As for the issues of the legacy of the Vietnam War, they are given high priority. We intend to cooperate actively,” the president assured.
