Russia shares Lithuania’s aspiration “not to reinvent the wheel” while solving conflicts in the OSCE area, but to be guided by work with existing formats and resting on realistic approaches, Russia’s permanent representative to OSCE Anvar Azimov said speaking at the OSCE Permanent Council meeting held in Vienna.
Russia reckons for Lithuania’s geographically balanced course not to stick only to resolution of the conflicts in CIS area, Anvar Azimov said.
According to him, major attention should be drawn to formulating single principles of conflict resolution. He also noted that Russia shares Lithuania’s aspiration to take into account UN’s prior responsibility in sustaining international peace and security, Russian foreign office press service reported.
As NEWS.am reported earlier, in 2010 Lithuania took over chairmanship in the OSCE from Kazakhstan.
Newly appointed Lithuanian Special Representative for Protracted Conflicts during country’s chairmanship in OSCE Giedrius Cekuolis will visit the South Caucasus in late February.
In December Cekuolis stated that OSCE chairing state Lithuania is unlikely to provoke a revolution in settling any of the protracted conflicts, but it will do its best to get good results.
The OSCE is an organization with progress measured in “millimeters”. However, each millimeter is “as good as gold.” He said Lithuania is determined to follow this course and do its best.
