After the OSCE summit in Astana likelihood of a new war in the Karabakh zone reduced, veteran of Karabakh war, Major General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan said at today’s press conference.

According to him, it is reasoned by the fact that all summit participants confirmed their position on non-alternative peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “Meanwhile Azerbaijan, beyond question, will continue its military rhetoric not reducing military build-up,” Ter-Tadevosyan said, noting that increase in ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan testifies to it.

Armenia should take adequate steps, in this context Serzh Sargsyan’s visits to Cyprus and Greece are of major importance. “We should lobby Armenia’s interests. False statements that Armenians massacred Azerbaijanis in Khojali, killed them in Nakhchivan, occupied Nagorno-Karabakh -such nonsense has been spread to prevent from right perception of the Karabakh conflict essence. Armenia has liberated Nagorno-Karabakh and we should lobby Armenia’s interests outside the country to bring this to world community’s attention,” he stressed.

Speaking of Russia’s positions and interests in the region, the Karabakh war veteran noted that Moscow’s policy is unclear and unpredictable at the moment. “What country does Russia call its strategic partner? Armenia and Azerbaijan - the states which are at war. This position cannot but arouse bewilderment,” he added.

Commenting for NEWS.am on dramatic changes in Russia’s position in the context of energy interests, Ter-Tadevosyan noted Moscow is very much interested in Azerbaijani energy resources. “This fact induces world community to a greater extent rely on the principle of territorial integrity than on nations’ right to self-determination while resolving the conflict. This position was also felt in the recent statements of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs where they call Stepnakert “Hankendi” and use “occupied territories” phrase,” Major General stated.

Summarizing he expressed confidence that the Karabakh conflict will not be resumed in the next 10-15 years. “Azerbaijan, instead of striving for peace, is trying to urge its people they will get Karabakh. I’ll disappoint them, they will not get it,” he emphasized.
