A regular report on Nagorno-Karabakh by the International Crisis Group (ICG) cannot be viewed as serious. It does not follow the basic principles of international documents, that is, impartiality, Eduard Sharmazanov, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The document reflects the authors` liking for Azerbaijan, he said. "Specifically, the document indicates the inadvisability of settling the territories under the Armenian side`s control. Are not infrastructures to be developed in the territories for decades? The document claims that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has not enough room for maneuvering inside the country. On the other hand, the document does not contain a single word about the `demise of the crown` in Azerbaijan. The document calls on Russia not to sell arms to the conflicting parties, without saying anything about supplies of arms to Azerbaijan from Turkey and Bosnia. There are many other examples of the authors` biased attitude. This is evidence that the ICG report smells of Azeri oil. However, Azerbaijan`s oil reserves are not limitless, and the ICG had better follow international principles of tolerance and impartiality in its activities," Sharmazanov said.

In its report, the ICG pointed out a much high probability of hostilities in the Zagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The report is critical of the Armenian side for allegedly occupying 16% of Azerbaijan`s territory. In this context, the status quo is against Azerbaijan`s interests, the authors say. Armenia must stop sending regular army conscripts to Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities must put an end to such practices as settlement of Azerbaijani territories, renaming towns once populated by Azerbaijanis and archeological excavations making status quo more intolerable for Azerbaijan.
