Moscow’s position on Georgia remains unchanged, whatever the results of the presidential elections, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters on Friday.

“We maintain our position on relations with this country, which is no secret," she said. “Russia did not initiate the severance of diplomatic relations. We believe that it was a huge mistake on the part of Georgian authorities," TASS reported quoting Zakharova.

According to her, “people in both countries have been affected by this situation.”

Moscow maintained contacts with Tbilisi as far as cultural dialogue, economic and humanitarian ties were concerned, but "the lack of normal diplomatic relations between the two countries" created additional difficulties, she added.
