YEREVAN. – Armenian authorities should manifest a political will in the fight against corruption.

Sona Ayvazyan, Executive Director of Transparency International Anticorruption Center (TIAC), stated the aforesaid at Friday’s discussion devoted to an anticorruption program for Armenia.

In her words, amid the fight declared against corruption in the country, the state also needs to introduce necessary transparent mechanisms for a systemic combat against corruption in Armenia.

“The current authorities have the necessary legitimacy for systemic reforms and expanding the agenda,” Ayvazyan said, in particular. “It’s important that all the processes, including in the Armenian government, be comprehensible for all citizens.”

She added, however, that a “pinpoint” fight against corruption will not produce the desired result.

“If the authorities announce about systemic changes in the country, then the fight against corruption should bear a systemic nature,” the TIAC official stressed.
