NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said he called an emergency NATO council meeting on February 25 to discuss the current situation in Libya.

The evacuation of foreign citizen from Libya and humanitarian assistance will be on the agenda of the meeting.

According to some sources, 300-1000 people were killed in anti-government protests in Libya. The demonstrators protest against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, who has been in power for more than 40 years.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe offered Libyan authorities to help to build strong democratic institutions and civil societies. Rasmussen said the Western military alliance will not intervene in the Libyan conflict.
