Armenians held a rally on Sunday to commemorate victims of the Sumgait pogroms in the center of Berlin.

The event was organized by Permanent representative of Nagorno-Karabakh in Germany Harutyun Grigoryan supported by Central Council of Armenians in Germany, Armenian communities of Berlin and the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Participants marched to the Brandenburg Gate where they addressed public calling on Europe not to turn away from the Sumgait tragedy and events in Baku, Maraga, Gyanja and the entire territory of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. They also called on Europeans to severely condemn aggressive policy of the Azerbaijani leadership.    

The participants handed out leaflets and addressed passerby in German, English and Russian languages.

As a result of three-day long pogroms in the Azerbaijani city of Sumgait dozens of Armenians were killed, many of them - burned alive after beatings and torture, hundreds were wounded. Many women, including under-age girls, were, raped. According to official information, 26 Armenians were killed another 100 were seriously injured.
