The demonstrators marched to Armenia’s UN office on Monday on the occasion of the 23 anniversary of the Sumgait events.

The event organized on the initiative of the Armenian Youth Foundation brought together representatives of 40 youth organizations, including youth organizations of ruling Republican party, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir party, Nikol Aghbalyan student union of ARF Dashnaktsutyun and others.

 As a result of three-day long pogroms in the Azerbaijani city of Sumgait dozens of Armenians were killed, many of them - burned alive after beatings and torture, hundreds were wounded. Many women, including under-age girls, were, raped. According to official information, 26 Armenians were killed another 100 were seriously injured.

The youth organizations issued a statement to be distributed in all the embassies calling for world community to condemn massacre perpetrated against Armenians in 1988-1990 in Azerbaijan.
