Hundreds of Omanis took to the streets of industrial town of Sohar on Monday demanding jobs, political and economic reforms, ITAR TASS reported referring to Algerian state news agency.

On Sunday police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators who were throwing stones at the law enforcers. According to some reports, at least 2-6 people were killed in clashes. Both police and protestors got injuries.

Mass unrests broke out in Oman following riots in certain Arab states. Sultan Qaboos bin Said,  who has been ruling the country for 40 years, has issued a decree creating 50,000 new jobs and $390 unemployment benefit. On Saturday he made a cabinet reshuffle dismissing six ministers.

Oman is a sultanate located on southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. On February 15 newly appointed Omani Ambassador to Armenia Mohammed bin Avad al-Hosan (residence in Moscow) visited Yerevan to present his credentials to Armenian President and Foreign Minister.
