Saudi Arabia named Princess Reema Bint Bandar Bin Sultan to be its ambassador to the US, making her the kingdom’s first woman to head a diplomatic mission, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported, citing a decree by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz.

Princess Reema will replace Prince Khalid Bin Salman in this office, which he held since April 2017.

Also in the decree, the king named Prince Khalid as deputy defense minister with the rank of minister.

Princess Reema has received her higher education in the United States. Since 2016, she has served as the Saudi General Sports Authority’s Deputy of Planning and Development. Also, she was featured on the Forbes’ 200 Most Powerful Arab Women and Most Powerful Arab Women in Saudi Arabia lists for 2014.
