The Armenian Parliament appointed Karen Andreasyan as Armenian Ombudsman by 83 to 13, with one ballot invalid.

Andreasyan is the only nominee by the ruling coalition. Meanwhile, other oppositional forces, particularly Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) and “Heritage” party do not intend to nominate other candidates for the post.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, former Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan resigned. He was appointed Representative of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia.
