YEREVAN. – At its Cabinet meeting on Thursday, the Government of Armenia debated on and subsequently rejected the bill with respect to making a supplement to the Code on Administrative Offenses.

This draft law—which was introduced by several members of the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction in parliament—proposed to set administrative accountability for the authorities’ obstruction of the lawful activities by MPs.

The government proposed to abstain from making amendments to the respective law in force.

“I’m not even saying that the MP himself has the opportunity to bring a government member, or the government to account with his public address, etc.,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated, for his part. “If he finds that something hasn’t been done as it should be, the MP has a very strong platform, and he can resolve that matter. [So] I don’t think such a regulation is right.”
