It is safe to say that the greatest achievement of the government in human rights protection is the elections that were held last year. They were the most transparent and helped gain the people’s confidence.

This is what Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan declared as he presented the reforms process during the session of the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia on 21 March.

According to the minister, from the perspective of democracy, the country recorded serious transformations, but there are still issues that need to be solved. Zeynalyan stated that in 2017, the former authorities adopted the Action Plan for the 2017-2019 National Strategy on Human Rights Protection in order to implement a common policy on human rights protection in Armenia.

The minister emphasized that ensuring and protecting human rights are one of the priorities of a legal and democratic state. “I would like to mention that this is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and in last year’s Program of the Government,” Artak Zeynalyan stated.
