The Sudanese army Monday closed the major street of Khartoum leading to the presidential palace, reports RIA Novosti.

Earlier, it was reported that several thousands of residents of different districts of Khartoum are heading toward the building of the army’s general staff located on the major street of the city.

Earlier, the Sudanese Ministry of Internal Affairs had confirmed the news about the deaths of seven people during the demonstrations held on the weekend (demonstrators have been holding anti-government demonstrations for several months now with the demand for the resignation of Omar Al-Bashir, who has been leading the country for 30 years).

The protests in Sudan started in December 2018 due to the increase of prices of bread and other commodities that have made the Sudanese more poverty-stricken.

In late January, it was reported that the protests have left over 30 people in Sudan dead, and 200 wounded are also reported.
