The Armenian authorities showed goodwill by letting participants of the rally organized by the Armenian National Congress (ANC) enter Liberty Square, said member of Republican Party Mkrtich Minasyan.

“People expressed desire to enter Liberty Square and they just went there,” he said. Talking to the journalists Miasyan also noted that authorities’ decision was not affected by presence of European authorities, in particular Co-Rapporteurs on Armenia. The Republican MP also called a gesture of goodwill releasing of two political prisoners on March 17.

Leaders of Armenia’s extra-parliamentary opposition called on their supporters to march towards Liberty Square during the March 17 rally held in Yerevan. The square was blocked by police. After negotiations held with the ANC leaders the square was opened.
