Security guards opened fire on demonstrators in Syrian port city of Latakia, shortly after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad ended his speech in the parliament.

One was killed, many others injured in the clashes, Al Arabiya reports. The protesters demanded to speed up reforms from the authorities. The government sources did not confirm this information, ITAR-TASS reports.

In his speech, the Syrian President accused the satellite television channels that they incited religious discord in the country. According to him, the conspiracy against Syria seeks to force the Syrian leadership to refuse to support the resistance forces in the Middle East.
