Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime held secret talks with British authorities, The Guardian reports.

According to the source, a senior aide to Gaddafis’ son Mohammed Ismail was sent to London, British governmental sources told The Guardian, Lenta.ru reports.

The contacts with Ismail are considered to have been one of a number of talks between Libyan officials and the West, amid Libyan side’s efforts to find a way out of the current situation in the country.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Gaddafi’s opponents seized many cities in the eastern part of the country. Clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces continue.
