Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime rejected a ceasefire proposal by Libyan rebels. The insurgents proposed a ceasefire on the condition government forces agreed to end their assault on major cities and towns.

Government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim said government forces would not withdraw from towns under their control. He called the truce offer a “trick”, AFP reports.

“The rebels never offered peace. They don’t offer peace, they are making impossible demands,” he said.

A wave of unrest continues in Libya since February. The demonstrators protest against leader Muammar Gaddafi who has been in power for more than 40 years. Gaddafi’s opponents seized many cities in the eastern part of the country. Clashes between rebels and pro-Gaddafi forces continue.
