YEREVAN. - Chairman of the Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan`s claim made in the Facebook social network concerning one of the leaders of Armenian opposition, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, is lie, Petros Makeyan, the Chairman of the Democratic Homeland party told journalists on Monday.

Safaryan previously claimed that on March 1, 2008, he, as well as a number of MPs, visited Levon Ter-Petrosyan and asked him to visit demonstration at the monument to Myasnikyan. According to Safaryan, Ter-Petrosyan allegedly answered that it was not "his people that gathered there."

"First, since Stepan Safaryan spoke of it after Raffi Hovhannisyan`s hunger-strike, it is clear what political order he is executing. He is lying,” Makeyan said. “I know that Levon Ter-Petrosyan was at first allowed to leave home. However, later he was forbidden to do that. He was ready to leave without bodyguards, but was forbidden to."

Speaking of the Heritage party`s activities, Makeyan expressed the confidence that "Robert Kocharyan`s phantom” is haunting the party.

"This confidence is due to the fact that Robert Kocharyan failed in our arena, but the fire must be rekindled," he said.

As to what particular "arena" he meant, Makeyan replied that this is the political coalition.

“The so-called Prosperous Armenia party was forced to put its signature under an ultimatum (Makeyan means the coalition memorandum - ed.)," Makeyan said. "Moreover, like a heavy stone, the Heritage Party is dragging the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) along. The ARF-D, in turn, is actually under Serzh Sargsyan’s and Robert Kocharyan’s [control]."
