YEREVAN. - Armenian Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan visited on Monday the Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise and Engineering Peacekeeping Battalion on the occasion of International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.

Under the government decision on Feb. 17, Armenian demining center was given a status of state nonprofit organization (SNO) “Center for Humanitarian Demining and Expertise,” Ministry of Defense (MOD) press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The center was established under a treaty signed between the Armenian MOD and U.S. Defense Department in 2002. Since 2002 the Demining center experts have cleaned a territory of 200 hectares. Around 140 Armenian servicemen underwent training in the center and later participated in peacekeeping missions.
