EU is concerned over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, RFE/RL correspondent in Brussels Rickard Yozvyak told RFE/RL Armenian service.

The meeting of foreign ministers of the EU member-states in Luxemburg on April 12 will focus on the situation in the South Caucasus, particularly in Nagorno-Karabakh, he added.

“EU foreign ministers will discuss developments in Northern Africa, but they consider conflicts in the South Caucasus, particularly in Nagorno-Karabakh, are also urgent,” said Yozvyak. “Poland is extremely concerned over Karabakh issues. The evidence thereof is that the issue was included in the agenda of the meeting.”

Poland will take over presidency in the European Union in July 2011. Yozvyak stressed that he had spoken to a top Polish diplomat, who expressed concern that Nagorno-Karabakh conflict may become similar to that of South Ossetia.

”It means Poland considers resumption of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh possible during its presidency,” he said.

Rickard Yozvyak had also talked with a senior official from the European Commission, who expressed concern, taking into account the fact that the Azerbaijani government spends huge amounts of money to purchase arms. The diplomat called the fact a worrisome development.
