YEREVAN. – According to Hraparak newspaper of Armenia, immediately after his interview outside the Constitutional Court (CC) yesterday, CC President Hrayr Tovmasyan was given a notice to go to the Special Investigation Service on Monday.
According to the newspaper's source in the law-enforcement system, it is planned to commute Tovmasyan's charge on that day, and to file a petition with the court to arrest him.
“The authorities are convinced that by arresting and actually isolating Tovmasyan, they will be able to put pressure on the other CC judges, forcing them to submit resignation applications. But there are fears that most judges will reject the motion to arrest Tovmasyan on the grounds of breach of the immunity clause, or lack of reasonable doubt.
According to our source, the authorities have instructed Artur Mkrtchyan, the President of the Yerevan City Court, to enter the relevant motion in such a way in the system of distribution the cases so that it can be assigned to one of the most trusted judges,” the newspaper wrote.
