The European Commission intends to purchase 200 million doses of a potential coronavirus vaccine developed by the German company BioNTech and the American concern Pfizer.

Besides, it is planned to order another 100 million doses of vaccine, said representatives of the EC, and both pharmaceutical companies. According to them, the first negotiations on supplies were successful, DW reported.

Deliveries can begin at the end of 2020, as soon as the relevant authorities approve the admission of the BNT162 vaccine to the market.

On September 7, BioNTech and Pfizer announced the final phase of clinical trials in Germany. To date, 25,000 volunteers have participated in clinical trials at 120 research centers around the world, it is estimated that by the end of the study, their number will be 30,000.

Large, controlled Phase III trials are essential to finally confirming the safety and efficacy of a vaccine, said BioNTech co-founder Ugur Sahin.
