Schools and shops will close from December 16 in Germany to counter the COVID-19, German Chancellor Angela Merkel noted.
The restriction will not apply to grocery stores and pharmacies, Interfax reported.
The retail trade will be closed, an exception will be made only for food and essential goods, the statement said.
Besides, all hairdressing salons will be closed. The restriction will be valid until at least January 10.
