Turkey and Egypt began contacts at the diplomatic level without any preconditions, Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu noted.

Cavusoglu told Anadolu that Turkey has contacts with Egypt both at the intelligence and FMs levels and at the level of foreign ministries.

Relations between Turkey and Egypt came to naught after the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi. Turkish President Erdogan, who has forged close ties with ousted Egyptian leader Mohamed Morsi, has often referred to incumbent President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as a dictator.

Sisi supported Turkey's rivals Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their 2017 blockade of Qatar and opposed Turkey's claims in the eastern Mediterranean by signing a rival maritime border agreement with Greece.
