The Belarusian authorities have set up a commission to investigate the circumstances of the landing of the Ryanair aircraft en route from Athens to Vilnius, the Ministry of Transport and Communications reported.

“A commission has been created to investigate the situation. The circumstances will be made public in the near future,” the ministry said.

The plane of the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair, en route from Athens to Vilnius, landed at the Minsk airport on Sunday after reporting an explosive device onboard. 

The founder of the opposition NEXTA Telegram channel - recognized as extremist in Belarus -, Roman Protasevich, wanted by the authorities, was onboard. 

He was detained by law enforcement officers of Belarus. On Sunday evening, the plane took off from Minsk National Airport and soon landed in Vilnius.
