Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abbasov, who participates in the 27th regional conference of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Yerevan, visited the house in Yerevan where he was born and used to live.

According to him, the visit to the house where he had lived for many years, caused nostalgic feelings. Interestingly, during this part of his interview to journalists he spoke Armenian. Minister Abbasov speaks good Armenian.

Abbasov emphasized that 1.5m out of 9-milliong-strong population in Azerbaijan is engaged in agriculture. According to him, the state and the President himself attach importance to the sector’s development. Funds are allocated from state budget for the purchase of technologies, mineral fertilizers and seeds.

Speaking of possible agricultural between the two neighboring countries, Abbasov said the present problems are a barrier to such cooperation. Cooperation is possible if the problems are solved. He recalled that Azerbaijan once supplied cotton, vegetables and other crops to Armenia.
