The networking capacity of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia will be expanded through the introduction of the institute of Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs. Zareh Sinanyan, the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, said this at Tuesday’s National Assembly session debates on the bill on addenda to the Law on Civil Service.

According to him, the purpose of introducing the institute of Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs is to develop cooperation between Armenia and the Armenian diaspora.

"The Commissioners for Diaspora Affairs will be appointed by advisers—on a voluntary basis. They will not be paid, but they will also not have a work schedule and working hours. The Commissioners will only provide professional advice on the domains of cooperation (…), and will assist the work being carried out by the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs in the field of cooperation with the [Armenian] diaspora,” explained Sinanyan.

He added that these commissioners will appoint the respective representatives of the Armenian communities in the given countries.
