Azerbaijan’s granting of an interim status to Nagorno-Karabakh is a concession made by official Baku, said official from Azerbaijani presidential administration Ali Hasanov.
According to him, the principles of peaceful resolution put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group, should not be viewed as aimed at providing an unambiguous victory of Azerbaijan or Armenia on the issue.
“These principles do not guarantee the complete triumph of one of the parties. In any case, the proposals of co-chairs provide for mutual concessions. Azerbaijani side’s concession is to grant an interim status to Nagorno-Karabakh,” he added.
Hasanov stressed that permanent status of Nagorno-Karabakh can be determined under peaceful conditions in decades, but now Azerbaijan is ready to provide an interim status.
At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday Azerbaijani President disclosed some details of the updated Madrid document, consisting of 4 basic principles, he added.
“Naturally, Azerbaijan is not fully satisfied with all of these principles. To be completely satisfied we should have started a war to liberate the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and urge Armenia to sign a peace agreement acceptable to us,” Hasanov said.
However, nowadays it is impossible. “Therefore, demonstrating a constructive approach, we are ready for mutual concessions,” he concluded.
