ISTANBUL. – U.S. intends to trigger the process of negotiations between Turkey and Armenia, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stated during her visit to Turkey.
Clinton called Turkish parliament to ratify the protocols on regulating relations with Armenia and elaborate other measures to strengthen trust with Yerevan, ITAR TASS informs.
The U.S. official met with Turkish president Abdullah Gul, PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and FM Ahmet Tavutoglu. She touched upon the theme of Armenia with all of them and expressed desire to see regulated relations between Armenia and Turkey. Clinton believes that would be a historical project.
The U.S. Secretary of State not only called Turkey to support and move forward the protocols, but also to strengthen trust and take measures to finally restore diplomatic relations with Yerevan.
The protocols on establishing diplomatic relations and developing bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey are written but not ratified as a result of Turkey’s unconstructive position.
