YEREVAN. - PACE Monitoring Co-Rapporteur on Armenia John Prescott (Great Britain) did not arrive in Armenia on Wednesday. Today only Axel Fischer arrived in Yerevan on a fact-finding mission.

According to reliable sources close to Armenian News-NEWS.am, Prescott failed to visit Armenia due to an accident. He boarded the train and left his hometown for London on Tuesday. However, the train hit the man and Prescott failed to reach London on time and fly to Yerevan.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, the visit aims to discuss latest developments in the field of amnesty and improvement of political environment, as well as electoral reforms and preparations for 2012 elections, the PACE press service reported.

Axel Fischer will meet with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, as well as representatives of extra-parliamentary opposition, particularly with Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

Today Fischer is expected to hold meetings at Armenian National Assembly. The visit will end on July 21.

The co-rapporteurs will present a report on Armenia’s democratic institutions to PACE in October 2011.
