It is proposed to impose a fine for the offense under Article 150.3, Section 1—traffic of heavy vehicles exceeding the permissible maximum weight or single axle load on public roads—which will increase for each additional ton. The respective bill was approved at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting of the government of Armenia.

Under the current law, a fine of 200 thousand drams (more than US$500) is set for this offense, but an increase in the amount of this fine is not set in case of an increase in weight or axle load of a vehicle.

In addition, it is proposed to impose a fine for obstructing a vehicle inspection by the state agencies.

On May 17, the Urban Development, Technical Standards and Fire Safety Inspectorate had informed that the maximum permissible mass of vehicles, or the load on one axle, as well as the maximum dimensions of large rims have changed in Armenia.

Scales were installed a few days ago on the Goris-Sisian motorway. And as a sign of protest in this regard, a group of truckers had blocked this road several times, and demanded that the maximum permissible weight for vehicles be changed from 26 tons to 28 tons in Armenia.
