Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a group of Ukrainian businessmen of Armenian origin.
During the meeting, Pashinyan expressed hope that today's discussion will result in a more practical approach to the presence of businessmen in Armenia, the press service of the Armenian government informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
"You probably know that fortunately this year Armenia has had unprecedentedly high economic results, but that doesn't mean we don't have problems. The most important of the economic problems is what we've talked about several times.
Today, unfortunately, we are not in a position to fully implement our capital expenditure plans for a simple reason - the capabilities of the private sector in Armenia are not sufficiently developed so that they could implement all the potential we offer. It is about the construction of roads, schools, kindergartens, other facilities of state importance and I would like to draw your attention to that fact.
Further, I think that we, the whole world, of course, are in a very complicated geopolitical and international situation, and as we see, we have threats and challenges in these realities, but on the other hand, we also have opportunities, including investment opportunities. I would like to draw your attention to this fact. And you can probably better decide which areas are more promising and interesting for you.
I can only cite a fact which you might have heard about: Armenia is ranked 11th in the world in the global index of economic freedom published only two months ago, which means that among 165 countries of the world Armenia ranks 11th for freedom of investments and economic activity.
And what does that mean? It means that there are no bans or restrictions on economic activity in Armenia, it means that no one is prohibited to export or import anything, and bans or restrictions, of course, apply only to what concerns everyone. I mean certain legal regulations and so on.
Of course, in case of Armenia there are some logistical difficulties, but everyone faces difficulties and there is no alternative approach," Pashinyan said.
He said that there is an Investment Support Center under the Ministry of Economy, whose main task is to support businessmen and entrepreneurs who are interested in investing in Armenia.
"And we are ready to listen to your opinions and impressions, maybe you can tell us about some obstacles or difficulties you faced in Armenia. Of course it will be interesting to hear about such cases, and in all cases when we see that solutions are possible we will solve them. There may be objective difficulties which are unrealistic to solve. But in any case, it is very important for us to have full information which we will take into account in our future activities," Pashinyan said.
Then the Prime Minister and the members of the government answered many questions from the business community concerning the reforms carried out for the creation of favorable business environment and so on.
Pashinyan instructed the heads of the responsible agencies to keep in touch with the businessmen and to assist them in the efficient implementation of the programs within the framework of the government tools.
