YEREVAN. – The dialogue between oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) and authorities is not in the priority list. Thus it apparently cannot serve for overcoming the challenges that Armenia faces, ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan told the journalists on Monday.

According to him, authorities’ current behavior proves that they have made all possible concessions and will hardly offer something new.

“Authorities will hardly get sober and make new concessions. Only people can press and demand new steps. Nothing is left for people but to oppose,” he stated and added that time is not enough for solving the issue through the dialogue.

Zurabyan touched upon the reception on 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence held at the parliament. ANC representatives will not participate. ANC will not be present at the military parade as well. The only exception will be made if the former president, leader of opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan reviews the parade instead of the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan.

The dialogue between authorities and opposition was suspended in August. ANC had stated that it will resume the talks only when the ANC activist Tigran Arakelyan is released from prison (ANC considers him a political prisoner).

The military parade devoted to the 20 anniversary of Armenia’s independence will take place on Wednesday at the Republic Square.
