The office of the Public Defender of Georgia has reported on the visit of 14 protesters detained in Tbilisi in the morning and two citizens in hospitals after the crackdown, Novosti-Georgia reports.

According to the report, 10 of the 16 said they were victims of police brutality on Melikishvili Avenue.

The Ombudsman's office calls on the Special Investigation Service to immediately conduct an effective investigation. To this end, the investigative bodies have been provided with video materials, which record the facts of alleged excessive use of force by the police and interference in the activities of journalists.

The Ombudsman's office said it is taking the investigation of the cases under control. 

Earlier, the Public Defender stated that as of 08:18, 19.11.2024, when the MIA started arresting the participants of the rally on Melikishvili Avenue, the rally was peaceful and complied with the standards of freedom of assembly. The Ombudsman called on the MIA to ensure the freedom of peaceful assembly of the protesters, not to prevent journalists from carrying out their activities, as well as to strictly observe the criteria of necessity and proportionality when applying detention measures and special means.
