The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) said Tuesday it will wait two more days to propose an impeachment motion against acting President Han Duck-soo over his refusal to release two special counsel bills against President Yoon Suk-Yeol and First Lady Kim Kyung-hee, Yonhap reported.

The DP had originally planned to introduce the impeachment motion at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday. But then it was decided to postpone that plan to see if Han would appoint Constitutional Court judges after motions for their appointment were passed at Thursday's plenary session, said Rep. Park Chang-dae, leader of the DP faction.

“We have decided to wait patiently to see if our demands will be met on Thursday,” Park said.

“Thursday is the last opportunity. Acting President Khan should uphold the people's order and actively cooperate in ending the insurgency,” he said, adding that the motion to impeach Khan would be brought to the National Assembly plenary on Friday if it is tabled on Thursday.

According to the law, the impeachment motion must be put to a vote between 24 and 72 hours after it is brought to the plenary session.

The DP had earlier decided to move to impeach the acting president hours after a Cabinet meeting led by Han ended without considering two bills calling for an investigation by the special counsel into Yun's brief imposition of martial law and corruption allegations linked to Kim.
