US President-elect Donald Trump intends to rename the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America. He stated this while speaking to journalists at his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida).

“We are going to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. That name has a beautiful sound, it covers a vast area - the American Gulf. What a beautiful name. And it's appropriate. It's appropriate,” Trump emphasized.

In his statement, Trump also criticized Mexico's migration policies, accusing the country of not doing enough to control the flow of migrants and drugs entering the US. “Mexico must stop allowing millions of people to sneak into our country. They can stop that. We're going to impose very serious duties on [goods] from Mexico and Canada because drugs are coming in record amounts through Canada, too,” he said.

Trump added that the imposition of duties would be a measure of compensation for the damage caused by illegal migration and smuggling.
