During this period, many serious developments took place in the relations between Armenia and the EU. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the government Cabinet meeting Thursday, during the discussion of the draft law of Armenia on the start of the process of Armenia's accession to the European Union (EU).

"I would like to emphasize two or three of them. One of them is the start of negotiations on visa liberalization; a matter that has been on the agenda of Armenia for decades. Now, this atmosphere has understandably created an expectation among the citizens of Armenia that this matter will be resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially since now there is a big problem related to obtaining visas of EU countries.

I would also like to emphasize the decision of the EU to make Armenia a part of the [EU] European Peace Facility, which is again a very important political decision. It is not very weighty in terms of amount, the scale of financial and technical support, at least at the moment, but it is a very weighty decision in political terms.

We have to balance all these perceptions, which in my opinion are neither much to be excited about, nor anything to stress about. With this, we emphasize the availability of tools to make use of Armenia's sovereign rights, and the fact that we [i.e. Armenia] are conducting an independent foreign policy based on our state interests," Pashinyan said.
