The European Union (EU) will study in detail Armenia's possible submission for membership, Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, announced Tuesday in her address at the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels, reports the RFE/RL Armenian service.
There are positive moves towards applying for EU membership. It is a choice, and the EU has to study all the submissions in great detail, and it will do the same for Armenia. But this choice, if Armenia decides to apply, is associated with obligations, Kos said.
The European Commissioner for Enlargement added that she plans to visit Armenia in the first half of the year to see on the spot what needs to be done in advance, or what they need to exchange information about.
Last week, the government of Armenia approved the draft law on the start of the process of the country's accession to the EU, and sent this bill to the parliament for consideration.
