The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, amid the suspension of US military aid to Ukraine, said that the security of Europe and Ukraine is at a “tipping point”.

The situation is extremely dangerous, von der Leyen said in a speech alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and EU Council President António Costa before the opening of an EU crisis defense summit, DW reports.

“This is a decisive moment for Europe. Europe is facing a clear and immediate threat, and therefore, it must be able to defend itself, to defend itself, just as we must give Ukraine the opportunity to defend itself and fight for the establishment of a lasting and just peace,” the European Commission President stressed.

In this regard, she presented to the heads of state and government of the EU countries a rearmament plan, which, according to her, will mobilize up to 800 billion euros.

Von der Leyen proposed a “new EU financing mechanism” to support member states in rearmament. The instrument should include €150 billion in loans that would be guaranteed by the EU budget. She also advocated a temporary relaxation of European budget rules for four years.
