South Korea and the United States conducted airstrikes with helicopters at a training ground in a city bordering North Korea as part of the large-scale Freedom Shield military exercises, Yonhap News Agency reports.

The two parties engaged about 400 soldiers from their infantry divisions, as well as about 10 units of equipment, including six South Korean Surion helicopters. The exercises took place at a military base in the town of Paju, located 30 kilometers from the North Korean border.

The Freedom Shield military exercises commenced on Monday will continue until March 20. In total, about 19 thousand South Korean soldiers and officers will be involved in them.

South Korea's navy on Tuesday conducted a drill in the Yellow Sea near Kagoshima Island to combat the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Three ships, naval special forces, and the coast guard were engaged in these exercises. During the drills, South Korean soldiers searched for the ship, on which special forces then landed by helicopter.
