Britain said on Tuesday it will move Russia to the highest level under the upcoming Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS), which requires Russian Federation to register all attempts to exert political influence in the United Kingdom, Reuters reported.

British Security Minister Dan Jarvis said that Russian government agencies, the military, intelligence services and a number of political parties will be required to register under the scheme, which will take effect on July 1.

“Russia poses an acute threat to Britain's national security,” Jarvis told parliament, citing espionage, arson, cyberattacks and attacks on lawmakers.

“Russia's invasion of Ukraine has underscored its intention to undermine European and global security,” he added.

Last month, Britain placed Iran at the top tier of the same foreign influence register.
