The United States administration will announce tariffs on foreign goods in response to tariffs and other trade barriers imposed by many countries, including long-time US allies.

The White House has not yet announced what tariffs will be imposed or how they will be calculated. It is known that initially there will be no exceptions. US President Donald Trump is expected to personally reveal the details of these restrictions to be introduced.

According to Bloomberg, the fees will also take into account non-tariff trade barriers of other countries and will be introduced in a targeted manner. The US head of state will announce the broad application of reciprocal duties to states and communities of countries.

But these tariffs will not apply only to countries that have not imposed tariffs on American goods and with which the United States has a positive trade balance, Bloomberg sources note. The tariffs would be in line with rates charged by other countries and will take into account subsidies from other countries.

US presidential aides are considering a three-tiered approach to international tariffs, in which countries will be grouped based on how serious the US administration considers their trade barriers, Bloomberg sources said.

Further tariffs are likely to further strain relations with US allies and provoke at least some retaliation, which threatens to escalate tensions, Bloomberg adds.
