NATO’s European countries have asked the US administration to warn them in the event of a sharp reduction in the US military presence in Europe, so as not to destabilize NATO defenses, unnamed sources in European capitals have said, Bloomberg reports.

According to them, EU countries expect the US to withdraw at least 10 thousand of its 80 thousand troops currently in Europe, including on the eastern flank of NATO.

Also, Bloomberg noted that the number of US forces in Europe is constantly changing, as until 2022 there were about 65 thousand American soldiers there, but immediately after the conflict in Ukraine began, their number first reached 85 thousand, and then, in a short time, to 100 thousand. In this regard, Bloomberg considers it possible that US President Donald Trump could withdraw more than 20 thousand soldiers from Europe, who were transferred there by the decision of preceding US President Joe Biden’s administration immediately after the start of the Ukrainian conflict.

In addition, Bloomberg presented the assurances of European officials that the chaos created by the Trump administration has disrupted a number of communication channels between the US administration and NATO allies—and which are usually used for political coordination of military issues.
