New German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, May 10, RBC-Ukraine reported.

The European leaders were met at the train station in Kyiv by Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president's office, and Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

“Today will be an intense day. Extremely important meetings. We welcome in Ukraine four European leaders, leaders of the “coalition of the resolute”. So we expect important decisions, we expect further cementing of European solidarity and support for Ukraine,” Sibiga said at the train station.

The Bundestag voted on May 6 to appoint Friedrich Merz as Germany's new chancellor. After that he took the oath of office and officially assumed the new position.

Today was also the first official visit of Friedrich Merz to Ukraine as Chancellor of Germany.

Before that, Merz visited the Ukrainian capital in early December last year. At that time, he stated that he supported the provision of long-range weapons to Ukraine.

Britain and France have led efforts to ensure peace in Ukraine. A “Coalition of the Willing” has been created, bringing together countries willing to provide troops or other assistance to Ukraine.
