The Qatari prime minister and minister of foreign affairs has explained that the planned transfer of a Boeing 747-8 aircraft to US President Donald Trump is a “government-to-government transaction,” not a personal gift to Trump, CNN reports.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani’s aforesaid statement came amid accusations that Doha is using illegal lobbying methods.

Trump had inspected this aircraft back in February, when it had landed at West Palm Beach Airport. The plane is a “flying palace” and is expected to serve as the new US presidential plane.

During Trump’s visit to Qatar on Wednesday, the US signed deals worth more than $243 billion with the Arab state, including the sale of 210 Boeing planes and GE Aerospace engines to Qatar Airways. The deal marked a dramatic improvement in Boeing’s market position after orders fell 60 percent amid the Alaska plane-hatch incident and widespread strikes.

Trump had previously said the aforesaid plane was a gift to him, and promised to hand it over to the US Air Force at the end of his presidency.
