Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump shortly after the conclusion of the Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul.

According to Zielenski, the leaders discussed the past talks. He noted that Ukraine is ready “for the fastest possible steps” for the sake of real peace.

"Our position: if the Russians refuse a complete and unconditional ceasefire and killings, there should be strong sanctions. Pressure on Russia must be maintained until Russia is ready to end the war," the Ukrainian president said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after his conversation with Trump that the Russian side “de facto broke off negotiations and refused to cease fire.”

“It's time to increase pressure,” he added.

 In turn, Keir Starmer said that “the Russian position is unacceptable and not for the first time.”

A Ukrainian diplomatic source told Reuters and Sky News that Russia's demands made during the Istanbul talks were “unrealistic” and went beyond what had been discussed earlier. Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksiy Honcharenko says Russia demanded the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops “from all the regions it added to its constitution.”
