The Lithuanian government has approved a resolution to implement the EU European Council's decision in January to suspend the visa-free regime for holders of diplomatic and service passports of Georgia.

Ordinary Georgian citizens, however, will still be able to travel to Lithuania without visas, Novosti Gruzia reports.

The Lithuanian government has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the European Commission and other EU member states of the aforesaid decision within five working days.

The speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said that Lithuania's decision is a gross violation of the 2010 agreement between the European Union and Georgia on the facilitation of visa issuance procedures.
